Business coaches, mentors, and inspirational people can be key to growing and maintaining a thriving business. In this blog, I share details of five such people that help me to do just that.
I first met Liana when I joined her and other business owners for a walk around Birtley Estate, the home of one of Surrey’s oldest family-run care homes. You might be thinking this isn’t the most inspiring of settings, I had to check the details twice myself, but it is so much more than meets the eye.
From the moment Liana opened the door to greet me until the time I got back in my car to drive home, I knew this was a woman who was going to change the world for the better, and I wanted to learn from her.
Fast-forward a few months and not only did I have the opportunity to work alongside Liana, photographing the launch of her business community space in Guildford, I was also lucky enough to be able to count her as my Coach.
The confidence, connections and plans Liana has helped me to both build, make and action go beyond anything I could summarise in a blog. Yet the energy keeps pumping, and I and my business continue to grow.
Just one of the people I have been fortunate to meet through my mentorship with Liana is Helen Martin. Helen is another force of nature who has taken lessons learnt from her own life and business and made it a mission to share with others.
Helen is my most recent mentor and in a single, extended session, I have a new way of approaching my plans for the next three years and beyond. The best part of this is that this plan encompasses my work life, personal life and everything in between. All in one place. All in a way that makes things achievable.
Passionate about people and championing the benefits of value based cultures and engagement in the workplace, Helen is more than a mentor and leader of one of the Sunday Times Best Small Company’s to Work For. She is an ambassador for empowering any businesses greatest assets – its people, whilst driving growth, profitability and innovation.
‘What if wonderful?’, the title of Susie’s recent TEDxTalk and something she asked me many months ago. Susie describes herself as a Disruptive. A Change Master, Writer, Consultant and Momma, not to mention an accolade of other skillsets that all bring benefit to others.
Having experienced her gifts first hand, Susie uses her experiences and belief in the power of ‘what if wonderful’ to help others both personally and professionally.
Susie recently agreed to speak to members of a community I lead here in Godalming and the feedback was phenomenal. In just two short hours, Susie had given each of the members the basis of a plan they could work on implementing, to make the most of this life and pursue their professional goals. It is people like Susie that make the world a better place.
The talk of the moment is all about Marie Kondo and the life changing magic decluttering your life can bring. Whilst Marie may make my wardrobe and cupboards much neater, I am more in the camp of Sarah Knights teachings in the ‘The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k‘.
For those of you not familiar with the book, this isn’t a narcissistic’s guide to telling the world where to go. What it is, or how I like to view it, is a permission slip of sorts to own this life we live and experience it fully. All, you’ll be pleased to know, whilst not offending those that matter so much that we end up alone.
I was lucky enough to meet Sarah in January when she held a private event at Foyles Bookstore in London to launch her new book, ‘Calm the F**k Down’ (can you see the pattern?). Sarah was as engaging and empowering in person as she is on paper, both during her interview with Daisy Buchanan, and when answering the audiences questions.
For me, Sarah is one of those forces of nature that is unafraid to speak the truth. She shares her experiences with others so they too can learn, makes imperfect perfect if it makes you happy, and reminds us that we all have the right to make our own rules.
That’s right, you. Each of you inspire me daily as I see you working hard to reach your goals, personal and professional. You strive to make a difference to others and you consider each decision you make but aren’t afraid of risk and are willing to go the extra mile.
Just as I revel in capturing you on camera and helping you communicate your messages and promises, I am constantly inspired by your ideas, your passion and your creativity.
Over to you
